Hunter Princess Blog Hop- An Annoying H/J Trend

A trend I am seeing more and more in the jumpers is riders wearing their pony tail down.

I would never even do this riding at home.  It shocks me that people go into the jumper ring at an A rated show like that.

Next on my list, why does EVERYONE wear these?
They are ugly.  And they come in like 5 colors so everyone looks like twinsies.  I will stick to my polo shirt on schooling day at the show thank you.

Lastly, colored breeches in the jumper ring.  Tan or white should be the only colors seen.  Period.

What’s a trend/pet peeve you have about hunter/jumpers?  Share your opinion and join the blog hop!

  1. Not a fan of colored breeches really either...I would be happy to stick with beige and a polo.

  2. Colored breeches are for schooling. End of story. I also hate ponytails in the show ring but admit that I ride with my pony tail down at home!

  4. I guess it's the rider's version of wind in their hair? Definitely not something I would do for a show! I know it's jumpers, but come on, there is still value in a polished look, no?

I have a few tops that look somewhat similar to that one. Mine is actually made for cross-country skiing but I quickly seconded them to my riding wardrobe. If I layer one over a merino wool base layer, I can ride in just that to minus 17°C(1°F) (I don't usually ride if it's colder than that). No bulk, breathable, technical clothing. I don't see anyone else around here doing it but they should, rather than wear big bulky clothes that they overheat and can't ride properly in.

    1. These shirts are for hot weather. They are supposed to keep you cool and the sun off. Every other person wears them at the shows here and I am starting to see people wear them in the training jumper classes. Tsk, tsk.
I totally commend you for riding in that kind of cold!! I am ashamed to say I whine if its 40s here!! Did you see that Under Armour has gotten into riding gear?
